Music in a Flamenco Festival

Filed under: Entertainment Events — admin at 11:05 pm on Thursday, August 12, 2010

Our present Flamenco music is supported by it’s musical ancestor/innovators. The three most main to merit this characteristic are Ramon Montoya, Sabicas, and Nino Ricardo. Born to a family of gypsy cattle ranchers in 1880, Ramon Montoya is accredited with enhancing the Flamenco Guitar to cutting-edge status. Although like many guitarists after him Montoya started his career accompanying singers and dancers, he later began performing solo. As a result ending the guitar’s purely accompanying role. Ironically, it was Montoya’s nephew - Carlos Montoya - who was largely accountable for focusing International attention on the solo Flamenco Guitar. From the 20’s through the 50’s he composed and performed in nearly every country. Even filling the Houston Astrodome! And establishing himself in New York. Today it’s Carlos - not Ramon - who is the most famous Montoya. Curiously, Ramon didn’t agree with his nephews style, and presented him no help. Thus Carlos Montoya’s first guitar instructor was the local barber. But Ramon Montoya retains the distinction of being Flamenco Guitar’s first solo performer.

Influenced by Ramon Montoya, but an amazing modernizer in his own right - Sabicas - noted particularly for his flawless rhythm, mixed extensively with Male singers.(Cantaores) Leaving Spain in 1936 with the outbreak of civil war, Sabicas toured South America with the dancer, Carmen Amaya. Sabicas, like Carlos Montoya, was a key force in presenting Solo Flamenco outside of Spain. Said to have exact pitch, Sabicas impressed with blazing picados (runs), fast arpeggios, and high quality compositions. The late Guitar great Chet Atkins once commented in an interview: “The best technique around has got to be Sabicas, the Flamenco player.”

Seville’s bars and taverns were the first concert venues for the child prodigy - Nino Ricardo. Known as the best player of his day, Ricardo made a major contribution to the change of the Flamenco Guitar. Many of his elaborate and rhythmically impressive compositions were arranged during his “bar wars” years. Nino had an exclusiveent playing style and tone, due to upward curving fingernails. Unfortunately, liver failure claimed Nino Ricardo at the ae of 68.

Of the many great guitarists who have inherited the traditions of Flamencos’ “Founding Fathers” - one of the most notable is Santiago Cortez. Not on behalf of blazing runs or other technical “flash” - but for his individual knack to respect tradition while innovating. And more specifically, for his eclectic taste as a composer and performer. Santiago seamlessly combines elements of Jazz, Rock, Pop, Classical, Folk, Celtic, Reggae and World music, into amazing compositions that are immediately familiar, but never secondhand. With his unique “Flamenco Fusion”, Santiago is appreciating and expanding the legacy of the Montoyas, Sabicas, and Nino Ricardo.

Entering Club Nokia on the 3rd Floor at L. A. Live, I Would Not Say I Was Very Excited to See Owl City

Filed under: Entertainment Events — admin at 10:40 am on Wednesday, April 14, 2010

Entering Club Nokia on the 3rd floor at L.A. Live, I would not say I was very excited to see Owl City . There music appeared a bit well, cheesy. A song about fireflies, really? That all absolutely changed! Owl City , a synth-pop experiment fronted by Adam Young, mixes beats with some of the prettiest sounds I’ve ever heard. Dressing the stage for Owl City was Paper Route, who played it all out, and the softness of the music didn’t affect the force the band resonates. Also on the lineup was Lights, which is a Canadian girl with a keytar who has beats that reach way further than her size. Her voice has a fantastic range, paying homage to a mixture between Enya, Shakira, Vanessa Carlton, and Norah Jones, but with a superb dance-ability.

High points included Drag My Soul and Ice.

Then, the primary event started. Disco lighting filled up the stage, as the group members entered, one after another. For live performances, the group is composed of Breanne Duren ( backup vocals / keyboard ), Matthew Decker ( drums ), Laura Musten ( violin ), and Hannah Shroeder ( cello ). Owl City opened up with the tune Umbrella Beach, and sending the packed club into a fever.

Young’s vocals are superb, and sound even better live than on the recorded albums. The employment of a violin and cello in the live performances adds to the depth of the music, which is worth seeing. An accomplished multi-instrumentalist, Young spent the entire set swapping between acoustic guitar, electrical guitar and keyboards. As cheesy as this could sound, songs like Air Traffic and On the Wing made my heart smile! Owl City’s music takes you on a classic journey thru the feelings they’re expressing. The sounds are many-faceted, and leave the listener feeling relaxed, emotional, and somehow wiser by the end. Young regularly claimed Hey thanks! after a song, and infrequently even added I like you! which made the girls ( myself included ) go funny.

His admission came after he significantly divulged his ten flings - including one long term affair - behind the back of his wife Emma. She threw him out of their southwest London home after he owned up to her on Wed. . But he later returned to the house to speak about his future with the ma of his 2 children, Elwood, 3, and Willow Rose, one. Start of sidebar. Skip to finish of sidebar. End of sidebar. Return to start of sidebar. His unhappy other half, thirty three, asked for assurances that he would give up alcohol for good and would do everything in his power to not let his behaviour affect the youngsters. As his difficulties built up, Owen knew he must come clean to bandmates Gary Barlow, Howard Donald and Jason Orange. “I informed the boys two weeks ago I am trying to address a drink problem. I spoke with Rob about it, too,” he announced. Owen, who also admitted he used to be a heavy pot user and still smokes occasional joints, took to the bottle after Take That first split in 1996. But he demanded his drinking never meddled with his work with the enormously popular band after they got back together.

“When I did my solo stuff I might have a drink but I could not do it with Take That,” declared Owen. “There’s too much to do, too much to think about. I usually had my professional head on with Take That, but then I might go to the bar and start drinking.”

Gorillaz Release New Single but Label EMI Are Hoping that They Have an Album that Sells as Well as Their Last Outing

Mighty Murdoc remembers, “Someone was chasing me through the desert! Luckily I had my camera crew following me and they captured it all on film, so I’ve cut it up and stuck it back together for my Stylo video! That’ll learn me not to leave the safe, toxic, isolated haven of Plastic Beach…”

Murdoc’s new stomping grounds can now be thoroughly explored with the launch of www.Gorillaz.com relocated from the now defunct Kong Studios (RIP) to the band’s newly constructed island hideaway at Plastic Beach.

Robbie Williams Forgets the Words to His Hit Song

Filed under: Entertainment Events — admin at 7:23 pm on Sunday, January 3, 2010

Singer Robbie Williams had a hiccup at an intimate gig when he forgot the words to hit song Angels.

The singer had to stop the track midway during his iTunes performance at the Apple store on London’s Regent Street, declaring “I f****d up there,” and start again with the lyrics on a music stand in front of him.

Robbie Williams blamed his memory lapse on the fact that he is used to replacing the word “angels” with “ninjas” at recent gigs.

Robbie Williams is furious that tabloids claimed he refused to turn up for a charity concert.

Newspapers reported that the ‘Bodies’ star failed to attend Rio Ferdinand’s London fund raiser earlier this week on Wednesday night (16th December) - but Robbie insists he was never even booked to appear.

A spokesperson for Robbie Williams has since revealed that his manager’s sent legal notices to organisers of the bash to remove Robbie’s name, as he had other priorities on the same day and had never agreed to perform.

His rep told The Sun: “Robbie was never, ever confirmed to play at this event. How could he be when he was recording a TV show? His management tried everything to get them to stop using his name to promote the show, even sending them daily legal notices.”

Browsing the Web for Fun

In today’s hectic world we often browse the Web for business and for personal interests, but most of those personal interests seem to be consumed by doing research for purposes, looking up old friends, or researching important health and lifestyle decisions. When was the last time you just spent five or six hours poking around the Web for no reason other than to just see what was out there?

The writers at the Many Topics Blog seem to do nothing BUT browse the Web for fun. Every day they publish two articles that provide information and commentary on interesting Web sites. The writers might share anecdotes about their childhood or daily lives to make articles more interesting.

And their articles are timely and relevant to what is happening in the world today. If you’re wondering how to entertain your family on a budget in a recession, you might want to remember how simple life used to be before we had the Internet, travel clubs, and mega-experience theme parks.

Or if you are wondering how to set aside some money for travel and buying a home, they offer some ideas you may find useful. These guys look at everything that might interest the modern reader. But they add a slight twist to these subjects and remind us that life is not just about work and getting things done.

The World Wide Web is probably here for a long time to come. But it offers so much more than just shopping and business opportunities. You don’t have to look up online libraries just because your kids have a school project due. You can spend a lazy afternoon studying history and peeking into the lifestyles of other cultures.

How to Install a TV above Your Fireplace

Filed under: Best Music, Entertainment Events, Movie Hall — admin at 10:15 pm on Wednesday, October 14, 2009

In considering whether you can install a TV above a fireplace or not, you ought to consider all aspects of TV installation. Below is a step by step guide for installing flat panel LCD TVs or plasma TVs above a fireplace. The guide can also answer questions regarding the safety of TV installation above the fireplace.

A. Do you have plans of using the fireplace after installation? If yes, then continue on reading this guide to learn if you would want to install your TV above your fireplace. On the other hand, if your answer is no, you are able to have your TV installation above your fireplace as long as the wall can support the weight of the TV and wall mount.

B. Use a thermometer above your fireplace on a mantel where you’re going to install your TV. Get your fire going in full blaze for a fair amount of time, if it does not get to or above the TV manufacturer’s heat level recommendation, then you are good to continue with your TV installation . If you do not have a thermometer, get your fireplace blazing hot then touch the wall above it to see if it’s warm to the touch. If it’s too hot to touch, then you should not install your TV there.

C. Another consideration aside from heat above the fireplace will the mantel wall, you’ll need to know if the facade has brick that is actually a part of your chimney. If it is a part of your chimney, if you’ve done a heat test, it should be hot. Most homes built from the 70’s have facades. If your fireplace has brick facade, heat is forced to small smoke stack that’s insulated from heating the surrounding walls. This will protect you from chipping paints and dry walls from totally deteriorating.

D. When you are not sure, call a professional who is able to determine if you can possibly hang your TV above your fireplace. HD installers have installed more TVs above the fireplace from any other companies in the Toronto area. Most of the time you are able to put an LCD TV above a fireplace, however, HD installers will not install big screen TVs once they determine that it is unsafe and will damage the TV.
