In the summertime arena of folks holidays it seems like Honey Gurr has hit big success. She is done the Mission People Holiday, the Filbert Holiday over in Comox and the Salmon Arm fest over time. But the Vancouver Folk Holiday, with that amazing site down by the water and all those thousands of avid, CD-buying listeners, is the jackbox prize. She is going to be running around from stage to host with the likes of the Avett Bros, the Yukon’s Annie Lou, Sarah Harmer, Men at Work’s Colin Hay — he performed at Ringo Starr’s 70th birthday last week — Bettye LaVette and Ricky Skaggs.
Good company. All of these outside music fests became such part of the cultural landscape this time of the year; they have become as summery as Popsicles. Not that Gurr’s turning down any one off gigs but she actually, truly is keen on the holiday vibe. “it is a bit a family, in a way, when you get to a holiday.
I am always shocked by it” announces Gurr. “I can remember the 1st folk’s holiday I played. I went ‘Wow, this is lovely, they treat you so well. ‘They feed you and they drive you everywhere and all of the gear is set up and good to go. And because they mix you up on all of these workshops you begin to know other artists.
“Customarily on an one off, whether or not you are opening for someone gigantic, they are not even backstage when you are on. You never feel attached to the individual you’re playing with.” apart from performing, songwriting and recording her very own work, Gurr has been increasingly frequently turning her hand to outside production work. Already she is produced sides on jazzer Gabrielle Sinclair, Sheryl Rae, Katie Donnely and vocalist / writer Lindsey May. More reason to remain home with her ukulele and her young dog.

Music Piracy Has Come To The Phone

Filed under: Best Music — admin at 5:22 am on Saturday, June 19, 2010
Music robbery has come to the telephone especially the Android platform, that has started harboring several programs built to download songs right to the telephone. Google nonetheless, has allegedly started playing a type of “whack-a-mole” with the applications themselves on the Android Market, as copycat applications pop up and are noiselessly deleted.
A representative for the company also protected the firm’s policy of permitting developers to make public applications without previous Google approval. Third party programs like Music Junk, Music Magician , Pandemonium, Tunee Music, MP3 Music, and Music Zilla all share a standard purpose : to go around music stores like Apple’s iTunes or Amazon’s tune shop in favour of free downloads.
Music Junk and one version of Music Magician have since been removed after PCMag.com started researching the tale, but Tunee Music, MP3 Music, and Music
Zilla all seem to be new. The applications differ somewhat from normal P2P programmes like Limewire, Kazaa, or perhaps BitTorrent files, in that only individual songs can be downloaded, rather than full albums or perhaps gigs of top hits compressed and stored in a .ZIP file. In 2006, Paul Jessop, the chief technology officer for the World Federation of the Phonographic Industry, told an audience of content managers that people who shared individual files were not really worth the effort to attempt to find and prosecute.

Controversy Over Action Against Illegal Filesharers

In an attempt to tackle the problem of illegal file sharing, DigiProtect, a German based company along with a UK law firm ACS Law have started the process of issuing threatening letters to thousands of customers who they think are engaged in illegal filesharing. Many customers have complained about this action: according to them, the letters allege copyright infringement and in quite a few cases, also threaten legal action along with asking that compensation be paid.

Lawyers have condemned this action in no uncertain terms, and the Solicitors Regulatory Authority has started looking into the matter. DigiProtect, however, is standing by the legality of its approach and has also tried to justify its actions by claiming that this is the only method effective in getting the desired results. This opinion of the company has been expressed in a statement made to the BBC.

There have been cases of customers not involved in this activity getting these letters which is apparently because DigiProtect uses an mechanical process to identify copyright violators. The company has promised to look into the matter and trace the actual defaulters. However, it has defended itself saying that the subscribers are the first point of contact because they are using that particular internet access..

However, DigiProtect is facing quite some flak for its actions, even by those who back the newly introduced UK Governments Digital Economy Act, which has far stronger laws. The general consensus is that DigiProtect is going too far in this campaign. The BPI, which had worked for stronger laws, has told the BBC that it is not correct that the first response to such violation be legal action.

New Pixie Lott - Turn It Up

Pixie Lott’s 5th single is to be Turn It Up, the title track of her first album. That is either quite electrifying, squeezing that many singles out of a new artist’s first album, or it is that the jury’s still out as to whether she is going to be releasing a follow-up.
Notwithstanding starting her pop career with 2 Number one singles, uninterrupted efforts have topped lower in the charts. Pixie’s last single, Gravity, topped at twenty.
On to the new single, Pixie Lott’s Turn It Up is a reasonably harmless slab of pop. To be truthful, it’s the type of groove I’ve heard a million instances when somebody’s making an attempt to pitch new girl group. Gives you an idea of what the vocalist can do, but is eventually a throwaway track.
It is a shame this is not a stronger song, because I have heated to Elf recently. She is a lovable girl, got a type of nerdy grin and there’s the guarantee of a large amount of fun in those eyes.
She appears to be the sort of girl other girls would like to hang around with. I am on about the tenth repeat of the tune now. The gigantic reaction? It has a bubbly chorus, but it is only a little familiar. But then it took me a bit before I was chanting “Gravity gravity graaaa-viiiii—tyyyyyy ” in my head too. Still, with all of the fanfare that encircled Miss Lott last year, I’d was hoping for larger and better things.
Let’s be optimistic she gets an opportunity to deliver them with a second album.
