Soccer Online - England Beat Fantasy Football World Cup
Possibly something you did not expect to hear this year after the poor performance by the real England team in their World Cup football games, however in the virtual World Cup tournament put on by Football Superstars, England reigned supreme. Football Superstars exists as a massively multi-player online game, referred to as an MMO.
While England were defeated in the 2010 South African World Cup by Germany, the virtual team did a whole lot better in the Football Superstars MMO World Cup tournament. Maybe there is something England football related that may be lauded this year. The virtual England team bested typical rivals the Germans in the group stages, holding up much better in the virtual world they managed to hold on to a 1-1 draw. The German team then started to lose 2-1 to the Ukraine, hitting them surprisingly out of the fantasy football world cup in the group stages, something that would be hard to believe in the real world. The England Quarter Final game displayed a large 9-1 stomping against Lithuania, who were just not on the same level as the England team, giving them a much needed confidence boost heading into their Semi Final game against the much anticipated Portuguese team. The game began well for the English team as they came out on the attack, the midfield saw some fierce battles with England finally coming out on top, winning 4-2 in a well played game. Russia turned into the team to best in the final, and England knew this, going from the first whistle and managing to go 1-0 up within the first minute. The Russian team eventually retaliated, knowing they needed to equalize quickly to be within a chance, and so they did. Scoring a goal from an interception after a terrible clearance by the England keeper, the Russians pulled even; however, it was short-lived, as an almost identical goal was scored by the England team at the other end. While Russia tried their best to get back in the game and had some promising counter attacks, the end result went England’s way as they managed to land a number of goals. The Russian team demonstrated a lot of heart, but were just out matched and seemed unable to muster the energy needed to turn the game around. Football Superstars PMC World Cup had England turn into the World Champions for the first time when the final whistle went off. Commenting on the event Andre Ruddick the CyberSports Community Manager labelled it a huge success, thanks to the passion of all those involved and the great organization from each team. It was the most substantial event hosted yet by Football Superstars. He went on to thank everybody who participated, and congratulate England for their victory and playing well throughout the tournament. There will be more World Cup tournaments continuing in the year.
